Otley was known amongst arctophiles worldwide as the place where the collectable range of bears made by Big Softies was created. When the parent company failed in 1996, production of these special bears ceased. However, a small group of the original workers have got together to carry on producing handmade bears to the same high standards. They are made from fine quality English or German mohair, using traditional components and all the stages from initial cutting of fabric to final finishing and grooming are carried out with manual tools. This ensures that no two bears will ever be exactly alike.
